June 18, 2018 - University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, MD.

Dozens of elite athletes, coaches, sports, TV, and radio personalities will tee off at what has become the who’s who in area golf tournaments – The Johnny Holliday Scholarship Classic.

This year’s tournament will honor Revere Bank as recipient of the 2018 JHSC Community Champion Award, an achievement recognizing community service to the Greater Washington Area and a continued commitment to the community and to the betterment of society. Revere Bank Co-Presidents and CEOs Ken Cook and Drew Flott will accept the award that will be presented at the 19th Hole Reception immediately following the tournament.

The tournament has raised over $1.5 million to help more than 4,000 youth in the DC Metro region receive personal mentoring at the Youth Leadership Foundation (YLF) – recently selected by the Catalogue for Philanthropy: Greater Washington as “One of the Best” Nonprofits as part of the Class of 2017-18.

This year's JHSC Community Champion Award Recipient, Revere Bank, is a community bank committed to helping businesses and their owners become more successful. Revere is dedicated to re-investing the funds they lend locally by supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs, and living out a commitment to giving back to the communities they serve. Their team is involved in many nonprofit and charitable organizations.

“Revere is honored to be recognized by the Youth Leadership Foundation with this award,” said Ken Cook, Revere Bank Co-President and CEO. “We are proud to partner with nonprofits like YLF that make vital contributions to the youth in our communities.”

Funds raised from the tournament will also offer targeted financial assistance to merit-worthy YLF students, so they can attend local elementary and high schools through the Johnny and Mary Clare Scholarship Fund – an opportunity they would otherwise not be able to afford.

“More children receiving quality education has been a goal of Mary and myself for over a decade," Johnny Holliday said. "And I’m happy to say that expanding the impact of the JHSC is doing even more to open doors and lower those barriers for the children that YLF serves!”

In the last two decades, YLF has served well-over 3,000 students: 97% of them have graduated from high school; 80% have graduated from university, community college or trade school; and 90% refer to their experience with a mentor as life-changing. In a 2017 comparison study, YLF students outperformed their school peers on measures predictive of future leadership and college readiness.

“The Youth Leadership Foundation’s commitment to giving young people in our communities mentoring opportunities that will change their lives is inspiring,” said Drew Flott, Revere Bank Co-President and CEO. “We are glad to support this great organization and are grateful for their recognition.”
