Introducing "Ray of Light" Natan Santos

1. Which of our three virtues do you identify with most?

For me the virtue that resonates with me the most is Excellence. I believe that opportunity presents itself when you put your best foot forward and try to achieve excellence and whatever you’re doing. My mother taught me from a really young age that it did not matter how little the job may have seemed. I needed to perform at the highest level possible because how you do anything is how you do everything. I truly believe that opportunity is on the other side of true genuine excellent performance.

2. Did you have a role model/ mentor that inspired you to do what you are doing?

Unfortunately, I did not have a direct role model or a mentor that inspired me to do what I’m doing but I do look up the mentality of the “greats” within the fashion industry and try to implement those teachings and practices into my own craft. What is important is that although I did not have a role model and mentor directly attached to my industry I did have many individuals who supported my dreams and I think that’s the most important thing.

3. What is the best advice you’ve received to date?

“Life isn’t linear, do your absolute best at the current moment in the current position that you were in and when opportunities come just say yes”

4. How do you see/ understand your responsibility to your community?

I have a responsibility to my community to give back everything that I have learned. Many of the kids from my community have really big dreams but many do not know how to actualize them. My duty to my community is to support and push those kids to their dreams. I hope to provide access financially and educationally.

5. Ultimately, what does success look like to you?

I used to chase accolades. I thought that success was measured by the number of awards and trophies that I held. I soon realized that those accolades were nothing more than 15 minutes of happiness. My definition of success is now measured by impact. How much impact am I leaving in the world and am I better than I was yesterday?
